A vehicle came off the back of a trailer and landed on the central reservation of the M5 this morning (Wednesday, November 20). There are now lane closures in place in both directions near Gloucester Services.

Two lanes are shut on the southbound carriageway while one lane is closed heading northbound. Police said a crane is being used to recover the vehicle involved.

According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, there is congestion on both sides of the motorway. Drivers should leave extra time for their journeys.

Gloucestershire Police said in a post on X at 6.20am: “Some lanes are closed on both carriageways on the M5 near Gloucester Services (J12) after a vehicle came off the back of a trailer and landed on the central reservation.

“No injuries, but a crane is required for recovery. Lane 3 closed northbound & only lane 1 open southbound.”
