The Calgary Flames have filled out their coaching staff with a familiar name — former Columbus Blue Jackets bench boss Brad Larsen.
The 46-year-old will serve as an assistant to skipper Ryan Huska.
Larsen skated for parts of eight seasons in the NHL — including stints with the Colorado Avalanche and the Atlanta Thrashers — and coached for nine campaigns in Columbus, two of those in the top role from 2021-23.
He hails originally from Nakusp, B.C.
Larsen replaces Marc Savard, who worked primarily with the forwards and power-play. It’s unclear if Larsen will inherit those same duties. (Savard and the Flames mutually parted ways last month.)
