GB News reporter James Heale has weighed in on reports that the latest poll conducted by IPSO suggests a drop in support for the Labour Party and attributed this to the Winter Fuel payments.

The chancellor announced winter fuel payments would be scrapped for around 10 million pensioners. From this autumn, those not on pension credit or other means-tested benefits will no longer receive the annual payments, worth between £100 and £300.

Speaking to GB News, Heale said: “it’s no surprise, that given the ongoing Conservative leadership race, all the contenders have now weighed in and made this point.

“The concern, I think, for Labour is, you can look at the stats which show that 1 in 5 pensioners are now millionaires.

“On the other hand, of course, there are a lot of pensioners who are going to be suffering this winter and I think having to find an extra £400.

“So I think it’s a juxtaposition of those two things having these big payouts.”
