Glen may have captured the last three Derry Senior Football Championship titles on the trot but this has merely served to intensify their effort as they eye an even more protracted stint as champions.

With manager Malachy O’Rourke preaching caution and defeated by Slaughtneil in their last outing, they are taking nothing for granted as they to prepare to take on Bellaghy on Sunday (5.30pm).

They will again be underpinned by a solid backbone comprising Conor Glass, Ethan Doherty and Ciaran McFaul while Bellaghy will look to Peter Cassidy, Owen Brown and Declan Cassidy to spark their resistance.

Slaughtneil, not surprisingly, are again in the hunt for the title with Shane McGuigan, Conor Glass and Brendan Rogers likely to be to the fore again for their clash with Swatragh on Sunday (2.30pm).

Conor McAtamney could have a big input for Swatragh who need to hit the ground running.

Also on Sunday Dungiven with Eoin Higgins and Conor Murphy likely to lead the way will face a Kilrea side (5.30pm) that includes the evergreen James Kielt along with the McLoughlin brothers Paddy, Daithi and Conor.

The Derry Championship also throws up some tantalising matches on Saturday afternoon with the Steelstown v Ballinascreen (2.30pm) and O’Donovan Rossa v Lavey (3.30pm) ties holding considerable appeal.

Cahir McMonagle and Gareth Logan may be given key roles with Steelstown while Noel Rafferty, Ryan Scullion, Benny Heron and Jack Conroy could help to lift Ballinascreen.

O’Donovan Rossa, meanwhile, can parade county stars Odhran Lynch, Eoin McEvoy and Conor McCluskey against Lavey (3.30pm).

The meeting of Loup and Newbridge on Saturday night (6.30pm) will see Loup likely to take their inspiration from Thomas Mallon and Anthony O’Neill.

The Down Senior Hurling Championship will be taken a stage further on Saturday when Liatroim and Ballygalget meet (5.00pm) while tomorrow Bredagh will host near neighbours Carryduff (2.00pm).
