A brazen daytime robbery on Wednesday at Pickering Town Centre’s Peoples jewelry store was captured on video as it went down.
In the video clip posted by @6ixbuzztv on Instagram, at least one of three suspects (all wearing masks and hoodies) can be seen smashing the glass inside the store with what appears to be a hammer while whoever is taking the video can be heard in the background going: “Urgent! Urgent! Urgent! Security! Security! Security! Urgent!”
Two mall security officers arrive and can be heard screaming: “Hey stop! Don’t do that!”
The suspects then fled the mall.
The clip shows the smashed display cases afterwards.
Durham Regional Police confirmed that on Wednesday at about 5:50 p.m., officers responded to a robbery in progress call at Peoples Jewellers at Pickering Town Centre at 1355 Kingston Rd.
“Approximately three suspects entered the business through the mall and began breaking the glass of the showcases,” police said.
“All suspects fled the mall to a waiting vehicle, prior to police arrival. Officers, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit, K9 Unit, and Air1, searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.”
Authourities said no one sustained any injuries but unfortunately the suspects “did steal numerous gold and diamond jewelry items (necklaces, bracelets, earrings). Unconfirmed value of items stolen.”
