Motorists may notice Canadian Armed Forces vehicle convoys on southern Ontario highways for the rest of this month.

Army reservists and vehicles from across 4th Canadian Division will be travelling from across southern Ontario to Garrison Petawawa beginning Friday, as part of Camp Worthy — a major field exercise conducted by the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps.

According to a news release from the CAF, convoys of military vehicles will be travelling along pre-planned routes to Petawawa, about 130 km west of Ottawa.

Convoys will be travelling from and through Sarnia, London, the Greater Toronto Area and Oshawa, and will be transiting Peterborough, Barry’s Bay and Bancroft, travelling on Highways 401, 407, 115, 28, 62 and 66.

“Participating personnel will conduct planned short stops and longer halts throughout the duration of the road moves, stopping for rest, fuel, scheduled maintenance and other training,” reads the press release.

“Residents and motorists may see uniformed Canadian Army personnel with unloaded weapons travelling on area roads and highways. Participating soldiers will not carry any ammunition.”

The training, says the news release, supports year-round preparations for international operations, and maintains the division’s readiness for overseas deployments.
