• Automotive News reported Ford dealers were shown plans for four-door and off-road models of the Mustang
  • Dealers were also shown an EcoBoost and manual version of the Mustang
  • Other products shown included a Maverick-based van and renderings that use the previously announced low-cost EV platform

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas…unless it’s just too good to keep a secret, right? Rumours are abuzz that Ford is planning a four-door and off-road version of the Mustang, and even gave Ford dealers a peek at some future plans while in Las Vegas.

According to Automotive News, “people with knowledge” told the publication Ford is prepping to expand its Mustang lineup with not only a four-door Mustang — this was previously rumoured to be in the works — but also a four-wheel-drive off-road variant. AN’s sources said a rendering of the four-door, called the Mach 4, was shown. Further, CEO Jim Farley shared an image of an off-road Baja model, which the sources described as lifted with special tires.

The dealers also reported an EcoBoost variant that could start around US$40,000, as well as a manual V8 convertible — no Shelby badging seen. The sources said no sales timelines were given, but it seemed likely that Ford was genuinely exploring production of the models shown.

AN reported other products shown to dealers in Vegas, including a van based on the Maverick pickup truck, said to replace the discontinued Transit Connect. The dealers were also shown the low-cost EV platform previously announced, along with renderings of sedan, crossover and pickup body styles, though nothing was confirmed to actually go into production.

But back to those Mustang variants. People weren’t too pleased with the Mustang badging on the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Do you think an off-road Mustang is a good idea from Ford? Let us know in the comments!
