A man who was shot by police in a village in Surrey last week has died as a police watchdog launches an investigation into the circumstances of his death.
Officers descended on Nursery Road in Knaphill, Woking, just after midnight last Sunday after receiving reports of an “armed altercation” in the street.
The man in his 20s was shot by armed officers at the scene.
He was taken to hospital in a critical condition during the early hours of Sunday morning and died on Thursday.

Police added that the pair were known to each other, and said there is no risk to the wider public following the incident.
Following the shooting, the force referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) – a necessity due to the man’s serious injuries.
IOPC regional director Mel Palmer said: “This is a tragic incident during which a man sadly lost his life.
“We have met with the man’s family to explain our role. Our thoughts are with them and everyone affected by this incident.
“Fatal police shootings are rare.
“Given a person has died it’s important that an independent investigation is carried out to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident, including police actions and decision-making, and the use of lethal force.”
