It’s the middle of August so everyone in and around the city knows that the CNE is opening this weekend, offering all kinds of crazy foods once again, showcasing its Bandshell concerts, and so much more.

But if that’s not your jam, it is a jam-packed weekend in Toronto with more than its fair share of events that are nowhere near Exhibition grounds.

Here’s what you need to know to make the necessary plans.

The King’s Plate

Experience the unforgettable excitement at Canada’s most prestigious championship thoroughbred race, from the thrilling speed, fabulous fashion, delectable food and overall fun.

King’s Plate Garden Party

If you’d rather celebrate the horses and not leave the city, you can watch the races, learn to bet through off-stations and apps, and enjoy food and beverages in the heart of downtown.

Taste of Manila Festival

The longest-running original Filipino street festival is back with the sights, sounds and delicious smells of Filipino cuisine, vibrant crafts and wares, and incredible entertainment.

Join the fun at Bathurst St. and Wilson Ave. on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Note: Road closures will be in place on Bathurst St. between Laurelcrest Ave. and Wilson Ave. from Saturday at 12 a.m. to Sunday at 11:59 p.m. The TTC will also not be operating within these boundaries during the times specified.

TD Markham Jazz Festival

Groove along to the vivacious, vibrant musical acts performing on three outdoor stages, along the street and in the community’s bars and restaurants, as well as one-of-a-kind shops and unique vendors.

All the action is on Main Street in Unionville on Friday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.

It’s the Year of the Dragon so naturally the fest brings that spirit, strength and beauty to life through vibrant performances, delicious international cuisine, a free mural walking tour, and so much more.

It’s all on the west side of Spadina Ave. from St. Andrew St. to Sullivan St. on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Wheels on the Danforth Street Festival

Get your motors running and head to Toronto’s best street-judged car show, where visitors can sidle next to hundreds of classics, hot rods, muscle cars, tuners, exotics and more.

There’s also a ton of food, a kids’ zone, buskers, a vendors marketplace, artisans and live entertainment.

Head over to the area of 3400 Danforth Ave., at the junction of Danforth Ave. and Danforth Rd., on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

It’s North America’s largest Japanese cultural event featuring traditional and modern performances, tasty culinary treats, and ways to learn more about the country’s culture and technology.

It’s all at Celebration Square in Mississauga on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
