Acura just debuted an all-new concept during Monterey Car Week in California, the Acura Performance EV Concept, which is, well, exactly that: an all-electric performance vehicle, that is currently a concept, but a step forward for the brand in the direction of full electrification. “Building on the just-launched all-electric 2024 Acura ZDX, our next all-electric Acura SUV will continue our focus on delivering Acura clients an exhilarating driving experience in the electrified future,” said Mike Langel, assistant vice president, Acura National Sales.

Developed in Los Angeles by the Acura Design Studio there, an actual model based on this EV concept is scheduled to go into production in late 2025, which Acura says will be its first “engineered on the new Honda-developed EV platform.”

Based on the concept images, it’s definitely got an interesting and different look from current Acura models. “As with our previous Acura concept vehicles, the Acura Performance EV Concept introduces a number of design themes that will be seen on future Acura vehicles,” said Dave Marek, Acura Design Executive.

While concepts can sometimes change — sometimes a lot — once they get to the production stage, the Acura Performance EV Concept shows, at least for a now, a trick vented hood, as well as side vents. Acura says the concept’s front fascia is inspired by “hydrofoil superyachts.”

In the back, there’s a full-width taillight and a diffuser that pays homage to the second-gen NSX. You’ll also notice ACURA spelled out across the tailgate in a new font to be used for the brand’s electrified vehicles. In the pictures seen here, the coupe-ish silhouette is highlighted in “Moonlit White Pearl” paint with a semi-matte finish — because normal white is just not fancy enough for this concept.

A closer look at the exterior shows off its long wheelbase, short overhangs, and 23-inch wheels shod in 295/35R23 tires. The wheels’ spoke pattern is said to “evoke a sense of movement even while still.” Zoom in and you’ll notice the brakes, with the same Moonlit White four-piston calipers with neon-green Acura scripting.

The Acura Performance EV Concept will make its public debut at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering on Friday, August 16, and will be featured on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, August 18.
