The Department of Health has issued a statement after an official X account ‘liked’ a social media post by prominent loyalist activist Jamie Bryson.

The post on X, formerly Twitter, by Mr Bryson claimed Protestant and Unionist members of Unite had left the union due to political activity.

The post said: “A number of workers from a Protestant/Unionist background are leaving @unitetheunion due to their partisan and divisive political activities, particularly standing shoulder to shoulder with IRA terrorists, Antifa & Palestine flags. All from PUL background should leave.”

A recent development on the platform has seen ‘liked’ posts by individual accounts hidden, but Mr Bryson himself drew attention to the development by posting a screenshot of the action by the Department of Health’s account.

He said he was “pleased” to see that the Department of Health “seemingly endorses” his message on the union and the call for members to leave.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Department of Health admitted the account did ‘like’ the post but that it was unintentional.

“A third party post published on X was accidentally ‘liked’ by the Department of Health account. This was done unintentionally when scrolling,” the spokesperson said.

“The ‘like’ has since been removed.”
