British No 1 Jack Draper exploded into a fit of rage midway through his match against Jaume Munar at the Cincinnati Open as he broke his racket to pieces.

The 22-year-old got his US Open preparations off to a disappointing start at last week’s Canadian Open when he suffered a first-round defeat to Jordan Thompson.

He formed a surprise partnership with world No 1 Jannik Sinner in the doubles draw with the duo withdrawing before the third round.

Draper was back in action for this week’s Cincinnati Open with the chance of reaching a new career-high ranking ahead of the US Open.

But the British tennis ace struggled to find top form against a tricky opponent with Munar forcing a deciding set.

Munar then looked on the verge of an upset when he broke Draper in the third game, causing the young Brit to lose his temper.

Draper slowly walked towards his chair before thumping his racket on the ground three times.

It’s not the first time Draper has taken his frustrations out on a racket this year.

Just last month, Draper blew up into a fit of rage during the first round at Wimbledon.

He managed to scrape past Elias Ymer in a five-set thriller, but smashed his racket against his bag at one point in anger.

Draper managed to avoid a fine from the All England Club as he avoided damaging the grass.

He wasn’t so fortunate at the Queen’s Championship in June when he was slapped with a £400 fine for launching a ball out of the arena in anger.

He also broke his racket into pieces at the Miami Open back in March after blowing two match points against Nicolas Jarry.

Draper managed to compose himself in the very next game against Munar in Cincinnati to break back and bring the match level once more.

Both players missed opportunities to break for a second time in the set with a tiebreak ultimately needed to decide the match.

Draper got off to the worst possible start as he lost his first two service points, but Munar was guilty of letting his chance slip.

The world No 28 was eventually able to get the job done and progress to the second round.

He now faces a tricky test against No 9 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and faces the prospect of facing Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals as they’re in the same section.
