The Edmonton Elks have a new owner.

Larry Thompson, the former owner of the Thompson Construction Group and a long-time season ticket holder, will be taking over, according to TSN football insider Dave Naylor.

The Elks went up for sale in March, Naylor first reported. Thompson will become the first private owner of the CFL club as it transitions from non-profit stewardship.

Thompson solid his construction business, which was established in Barrhead, Alta. in 1964, and headquartered in Spruce Grove since 1984, in June of 2023.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders are now the only two remaining community-owned CFL franchises.

Edmonton has not made the playoffs since 2019, started this season with seven straight losses, but has won two straight ahead of the news.
