Belfast is gearing up to welcome two chart-topping mega-stars as preparations for Vital 2024 kick off at Boucher Playing Fields.

This Friday and Saturday will see Liam Gallagher and Noah Kahan headline the festival, which has been an annual event in Belfast for more than 10 years. It’s expected that 80,000 people will descend on the playing fields in south Belfast to watch both shows.

On Friday, Gallagher, who famously was part of Oasis with estranged brother Noel, will be performing as part of the Definitely Maybe tour, a celebration of his former band’s debut album released 30 years ago.

He will also be performing songs from his solo career, having last released an album in 2022. Gallagher’s sold-out show marks one of only 14 dates on the ‘Definitely Maybe 30 Years’ arena tour.

Saturday will see summer sensation Noah Kahan take to the stage. The Vermont-born singer-songwriter went viral last year after his song Stick Season became one of the most used tunes on video-sharing app TikTok.

The song later shot to number one in the UK and Ireland music charts. He then released an extended album of the same name, which also went to number one in the UK and Ireland, earning him a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist.

Saturday’s performance marks one of Kahan’s first solo shows in Northern Ireland, having previously supported Irish singer Dermot Kennedy on tour in 2023.

Event controller of Vital 2024 Paul Scott told the Belfast Telegraph he expects a large turnout for both dates.

“We have two world-class acts this year — Liam Gallagher on Friday, who is touring his iconic album Definitely Maybe, and we have also got Noah Kahan, who is the face of summer 2024,” he said.

“The best part is that we’ll have thousands of people across two days — plenty of room for everyone here with the 68-metre-wide and 20-metre-high stage.

“We have over 100 metres of bars to keep everyone from going thirsty, and over 30 food outlets.”

He also advocated for anyone due to attend the popular festival across the two evenings to have an enjoyable time, but to ensure they are conscious of their own health and safety.

“We would encourage everyone to come and have a good time to show Belfast off at its best, but not to be doing silly things like overindulging,” he said.

“Also allow plenty of time for travel, with our enhanced bus service for people taking their rail journeys.

“We’re expecting good weather, so bring your sun cream but also a jumper, just in case it gets cold.”
