Chris Phillips, the former head of the National Counter-Terrorism Security Office has blasted the claims that MI6 will “scrutinise” Nigel Farage after UK riots
The Reform UK leader has faced criticism for comments made during the riots last week and today former MI6 spy Christopher Steele claimed that Farage will be “scrutinised” and tracked to see if they are backing Putin.
Speaking about the claims that were made to Daily Mail, Phillips said: “I think it’s a load of rubbish, to be honest.”
He added: “Christopher Steele was probably asked for a comment on all this and probably offhand mention something along these lines that people will be looked into.

“I think this is the story of nothing, to be quite honest. Tommy Robinson will be monitored. There’s no doubt about that.
“He’s considered a bit of a problem and criminal to some. But Nigel’s not said anything. I don’t think, that would would cause any issues with regards to this.”

He explained: “I think it is defamatory. If I was Nigel, I’d be speaking to my solicitors.
“We’ve got a load of misinformation and nonsense going on at the moment because neither party want to deal with the problem that 70 per cent of the population feel.
“There’s a lot of misinformation flying about, I think Nigel is probably in the middle.
“There’s an awful lot of people in the country that are concerned about immigration. Both parties know that and they’re both trying to throw some muck around and of course, Nigel is the one that’s going to get it.”

The UK was hit with violence and disorder last week when riots broke out across the nation following the stabbing of three girls in Southport.
Various accounts falsely claimed the suspect was an asylum seeker causing anti-immigration riots to stir up the country.
The Reform MP took to social media after the stabbings and questioned why the incident was being treated as a “non-terror incident” he also suggested the “truth” about the identity of the suspect was being withheld.

The suspect was later identified by police as Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, a 17-year-old born in Cardiff, who has now been charged with three counts of murder.
Farage did offer a condemnation of the violence, saying he had “always been 1,000 miles away from far-right agitators, from conspiracy theorists.”
But he declined to retract his X video, instead arguing: “I don’t believe we’re being told the full truth yet about this person. I want to know.”
