• Dodge’s new Charger Daytona EV comes with a “Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust,” inspired by a V8
  • The tech goes beyond a fake sound piped into the cabin, instead using a unique combo of amps and enclosures
  • There is one catch: while it changes note based on input, it doesn’t simulate the sounds of gear-shifts

Dodge has taken a step that is not entirely novel, but that will turn out to be unique for the brand. With the all-new Charger Daytona EV, Dodge is introducing the public to the world’s first Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust system. The system, introduced at a recent Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge event, is meant to ignite ICE muscle-car passions even in vehicles with electric powertrains. From the sound of it, this new Fratzonic “exhaust” does produce a rumble reminiscent of classic Dodge muscle cars—but what do you think?

The Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust is the first patent-pending chambered exhaust designed specifically for an electric vehicle. Currently exclusive to the Dodge Charger Daytona models, it integrates dual high-efficiency extreme bandwidth transducers with dual Fratzonic Chamber-loaded passive radiators. These components work in harmony within a custom enclosure powered by a dedicated amplifier, delivering a deep rumble that Dodge says stays true to its muscle-car heritage.

Dodge has engineered the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust to respond dynamically to the driver’s inputs and the vehicle’s performance, much like applying pressure to the loud-pedal in an ICE would. The system reacts to various driving events such as acceleration, throttle adjustments, and even idle revving. In performance modes like Drag, Drift, Donut, and Track, the exhaust’s acoustic output intensifies. However, the Fratzonic exhaust does not simulate the sound of gears being shifted.

Additionally, and thankfully for some not interested in such noises, a Stealth Mode offers completely silent operation, accessible through the Charger Daytona’s 12.3-inch central touchscreen.

To further highlight the features of the new Charger Daytona, Dodge has launched a 20-part video series titled “Built Upon a Legacy.” The series will explore the design, power, and innovative aspects of the Charger Daytona in three distinct chapters. The first episode, which focuses on the vehicle’s design elements, including the exterior front R-wing pass-through and a driver-centric interior, is now available on Dodge’s official YouTube channel.

The all-new Dodge Charger Daytona made its public debut at the Roadkill Nights event in Pontiac, Michigan on August 10. Production of the two-door coupe versions of the Charger Daytona R/T and Charger Daytona Scat Pack are planned for this summer, as 2024 models, while four-door models will leave the assembly line in the first half of 2025.
