An American-style chain specialising in buttermilk-marinated chicken is opening another six branches in Northern Ireland, it announced today.

Slim Chickens will launch its third branch, and first drive-thru in NI, at Sprucefield Retail Park in Lisburn in October.

And it said it plans to open another five in Northern Ireland, with locations to be announced over the rest of the year.

The restaurant will operate from a 9,800 sq ft unit in the £20m expansion of Sprucefield Retail Park, which will also include new shops and a hotel.

It already has stores at Boucher Crescent in south Belfast and at Victoria Square in the city centre.

Slim Chickens sells chicken tenders, chicken tenders, sandwiches, loaded fries and crispy wings.

It was founded in Fayetteville, Arkansas around 15 years ago, and is operated in the UK by Boparan Restaurant Group.

Ben Blore, head of operations at Slim Chickens, said: “At Slim Chickens, we’re all about delivering that Southern charm alongside our fresh, cooked-to-order chicken. We can’t wait to bring this experience to Sprucefield.

“I want to give a huge shout-out to our amazing team, who are working tirelessly to make this opening a reality.

“Their dedication is what allows us to serve up the best experience to our guests, every single time.”

Slim Chickens will also be selling its food through delivery platforms, it added.

The American-style chain specialises in fresh, homemade southern-inspired dishes, offering 13 dipping sauces to accompany its dishes.

It’s the latest chicken chain to expand in Northern Ireland. Canadian-founded business Mary Brown’s Chicken now has outlets in Odyssey Place in Belfast and Lisburn Leisure Park.

And Popeyes Louisiana Chicken is to open its first Northern Ireland spot at Forestside Shopping Centre in Belfast, where another branch of South African-owned Nando’s is also due to open.
