Multiple people were rushed to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries after at least nine vehicles were involved in a fiery pileup in Oshawa on Saturday afternoon.

Durham Regional Police said in social media updates that the intersection of Ritson Rd. and Bloor St. was shut down due to the collision and would be closed for a significant period of time.

According to a video shared to Facebook, one car with severe damage came to rest at a hydro pole on Bloor St., just east of the intersection.

One person on X, in response to a police post, said the car was fully engulfed in flames after it struck the pole.

The video also shows other vehicles with extensive damage on Ritson Rd. just north of the intersection. Smoke was rising from at least one vehicle after it caught fire.

According to another post on X, a food truck sitting in a parking lot at the northeast corner of the intersection was also damaged.

Police said they would be providing an update on the collision later.
