A Co Down pervert caught in a so-called paedophile hunter sting has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register.

Daniel Buck Piper-Clark was due to stand trial on two charges at Newry Magistrates Court on Friday, but his lawyer Justin Byrne said his client was pleading guilty to one count.

The prosecution offered no evidence on the second charge, so it was dismissed by District Judge Jonathan Connolly.

None of the facts were opened during the hearing, but according to legal papers, Piper-Clark tried to communicate with a girl he believed to be under 16, with the communication being sexual in nature.

He is said to have done so over a six-month period between April and October 2019.

It is understood the 34-year-old was caught by a decoy working undercover for a paedophile hunter group who posed as a 14-year-old girl called Talia.

Adjourning passing sentence until the probation service had completed a report, Judge Connolly freed Piper-Clark on bail but ordered him to sign the sex offenders register.

When Sunday Life called to pervert’s door, he answered wearing Marvel-branded pyjamas but declined to comment on the case.
