Former Republic of Ireland international James McClean has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with League One Wrexham.

The Derry native arrived at the Welsh club in 2023 and soon established himself as a key part of Phil Parkinson’s side, making 44 appearances across all competitions. He also captained the club on several occasions, as they finished second in League Two to secure promotion.

And now ahead of Wrexham’s League One opener at home to Wycombe on Saturday, the Irish centurion has committed his future to the Hollywood-backed club and is eyeing more success going forward.

“I’m obviously delighted. Since I’ve been here, I’ve really enjoyed it and to be given the opportunity to continue that for another two seasons is something I’m really looking forward to,” said McClean, who won his 104th and final Irish cap against New Zealand in November 2023.

“It’s been successful so far and hopefully there’s more success to come over the next two seasons.”

Wrexham boss Parkinson also welcomed the news, adding: “We’re pleased James has signed a new contract. He was excellent for us last season and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with him.”
