The Halton Regional Police marine unit saved a man drowning on Monday.

At 4:40 p.m., the marine unit was patrolling the area of Burlington Beach, came across an unoccupied inflatable tube and saw a man struggling in the water.

Officers found the man submerged two feet below the waterline and without vital signs. A passing boater helped them bring the man aboard, where officers began-life saving measures.

Officers made their way toward Spencer Smith Park, where they were able to transfer the patient to firefighters and paramedics. The man was then taken to a hospital and regained consciousness. He is expected to recover.

Police said the man had been floating on an inflatable tube before drifting out from shore and losing contact with the tube because of weather conditions.
