A shopworker in Bristol was taken to hospital after two teenagers smashed a bottle of wine on his head when he tried to stop them stealing it.

The member of staff at the Lidl store in South Bristol suffered a head injury and needed hospital treatment for cuts, but was discharged following treatment. The store was closed after the incident, which happened on Monday evening, and continued to be closed and cordoned off for all of Tuesday morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses to what happened, and said two other people were also trying to steal from the store at the same time.
