BBC’s Belfast offices are going into lockdown ahead of an anti-immigration protest.

The offices are set to go into lockdown at 4.30pm ahead of a protest at the Clayton Hotel in Belfast city centre.

An email was sent to staff saying, “It is likely there will be a protest outside the Clayton Hotel in front of Broadcasting House (BH) between 17:00 and 19:00 this evening, Monday 5 August.

“To ensure staff safety, Broadcasting House will be put into lockdown at 16:30 and all access will be via the Linenhall Street gate at the rear of the building.

“Colleagues in the security team will be on hand to guide staff and advise on when the front doors can be reopened.”

The BBC have been contacted for comment.

Earlier on Monday, four men were remanded into custody accused of taking part in riots and an illegal parade during anti-immigration protests over the weekend.

Several businesses were attacked and some were set on fire during the protests after an anti-immigrant demonstration moved from Belfast City Hall to surrounding streets.

Three police officers were injured and four members of the public reported that they were assaulted.
