A person has been taken to hospital after their car came off the road and landed on a beach outside Newtownards.

Bangor Coastguard and Rescue Team confirmed the PSNI, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and NI Ambulance Service all attended the scene on the Portaferry Road on Sunday afternoon.

In images shared by the team on social media, the red car can be seen among the rocks on the beach while the emergency services assisted.

A spokesperson confirmed the rescue was launched at around 3.55pm.

The spokesperson added: “Team tasked along with PSNI, NIFRS and Portaferry Coastguard Team after Ambulance service received reports of a car that had come of the Portaferry Road, Newtownards and landed on the beach.

“The casualty self recovered from the vehicle, was tended to by the paramedics and transferred to hospital. Vehicle was later recovered from the shore and all assets stood down.”
