Magheralin’s Daniel Wiffen has won a second medal at the Olympic Games after claiming bronze in the 1500m freestyle at the Paris La Defense Arena.

After winning gold in the 800m freestyle earlier in the week, hopes were high that Wiffen could double up in the longer distance but he would struggle to keep pace with defending champion Bobby Finke, who was unstoppable as he broke the world record to take gold in a time of 14:30.67.

Wiffen would touch up in 14:39.63 for third, coming in behind Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri, who wasn’t far behind Finke in taking silver.
