A 25-year old man has been arrested following a suspected stabbing in Belfast which left a man requiring extensive surgery.

Police were called to the scene in the Fitzroy Avenue area of the city shortly after 8.10pm.

On arrival, officers found two men injured outside the property. One had sustained a wound to his leg and hand, while the other had a serious injury to his calf.

A PSNI spokesperson confirmed both men were taken to hospital following first aid, with the pair requiring hospital treatment for their injuries. One of the men needed extensive surgery.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The PSNI spokesperson added: “He remains in custody at this time as enquiries continue into the investigation to determine exactly what happened and a motive.
