SUMMER’S GAMES

Summer McIntosh is built differently. She is a phenom in the water and becoming a Canadian superstar and legend in this country. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, she should be the closing ceremonies flag bearer, in my opinion.

(It is a treat to see her compete. Canada is proud and Summer would be an excellent choice to carry the flag)

NOT FINE WITH FEE

Re “City of Toronto’s parking fines going up on Aug. 1” (Jane Stevenson, July 29): In a blatant attempt to further discourage cars, therefore business and tourism in Toronto, a raise in taxes begins in the form of hiking parking violations. Not against this as such, if the same rules were applied to cyclists. Let’s see, biking on sidewalks, ignoring every stop sign, red light, pedestrians, leaving the bike lane to ride in traffic, would be a start. Oh yes, mandatory licensing, insurance for sure, because we all know — from being lectured to, over and over — that bicycles are vehicles that you have to share the road with. Speaking of which, if you share the roadways, you must share the cost of construction and maintenance. Happy motoring.

(Higher property taxes, higher fees for everything — this is Olivia Chow’s Toronto. Where is the money going?)

T.O. CASH GRAB

Mayor Chow increasing parking fines has nothing to do with safety — it’s a cash grab plain and simple. She can frame it anyway she wants but the truth is it’s a cash grabbing scam. Welcome to your mayor’s world.

Sylvia Saunders

(Pay attention Toronto — these fees and fines were raised without any opposition. It’s only going to get worse)

BOXING BUNGLE

Women’s lib might just as well be thrown out the window when testosterone levels of women are so high gender doesn’t count anymore, when a boxing federation has previously tossed a person for gender confusion due to high levels of anything is not fair. Perhaps the issue of drone and iPhone filming confusion is not as bad as a previously banned so-called athlete in the real world using the Olympics to beat the heck out of women.
