Everyone seemingly has an opinion on the Olympic boxing gender controversy.
If U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has one, she and the White House haven’t publicly shared it. Republican presidential hopeful and former President Donald Trump, on the other hand, has plenty to say about it.
Social media has been a cesspool for varying opinions earlier this week after Algerian boxer Imane Khelif was caught up in a gender controversy after her opponent, Italy’s Angela Carini, withdrew from the bout 46 seconds in after being rocked by her opponent’s strong punches.
The match ending spurred controversy with many claiming Khelif was transgender and shouldn’t be competing against biologically born females at the Olympics.
In a Fox News report, a Trump spokesperson said he doesn’t stand for men competing in women’s sports, noting it’s “insane and unfair reality that has been allowed to transpire because of Radical Left politicians like Kamala Harris.
“When he returns to the White House, President Trump will take immediate action to protect women and girls and overturn the Harris-Biden Administration’s radical rewrite of Title IX.”
Khelif is no stranger to controversy. She was previously disqualified from the 2023 World Boxing Championships after the International Boxing Association stated Khelif failed gender tests after she was found with elevated levels of testosterone.
The International Olympic Committee gave the green light for Khelif to compete in boxing, with spokesperson Mark Adams telling CNN the 25-year-old boxer was “born female, was registered female, lived her life as a female, boxed as a female, has a female passport.”
Fox News reported if Harris is elected, she’s expected to continue President Joe Biden’s efforts to expand Title IX, a civil rights law that bans sex-based discrimination in federally funded educational institutions, which now includes protections against gender identity and sexual orientation discrimination.
