A Toronto man is charged with arson and three counts of fail to comply with probation in connection with the fire earlier this week at a Jewish school.

Cops allege the accused had been using an exterior storage shed at The Leo Baeck Day School, in the Bathurst St. and Eglinton Ave. W. area, for shelter before the school noticed on Monday that someone was storing belongings there and removed them.

On Tuesday at about 3:30 a.m., Toronto Police allege the suspect returned to the shed to find his belongings removed, was observed leaving the shed, and shortly after the fire began.

Authorities say the fire and heat resulted in damage to the shed and broke several of the school’s windows.

Police said the incident is not considered to be a hate-motived crime.

Mark Anthony Dela-Cruz, 34, of Toronto, was arrested Thursday after Toronto Police released a photo of a suspect in Tuesday’s blaze.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-1300 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
