Emergency services are battling a large fire at an industrial premises in the Clonshaugh/Coolock area of North Dublin, which can be seen from across the city.

A large plume of smoke can be seen from across the city and by passengers flying in and out of Dublin Airport.

Gardaí and Dublin Fire Brigade are currently attending the fire at Clonshaugh Industrial Estate in the Clonshaugh/Coolock area of Dublin 17.

Flights at the airport have not been affected, although local people have been advised to remain indoors.

The fire is understood to be at a business premises that neighbours a data centre owned by US tech giant Amazon.

“Gardaí from Santry Station are currently providing assistance to Dublin Fire Brigade at an industrial fire occurring at a premises in the Clonshaugh are of Dublin 17,” a garda spokesperson said.

Six fire engines including a turntable ladder are at an industrial unit fire off the Oscar Traynor Road in Coolock, Dublin Fire Brigade said.

“At 16.59 hrs Dublin Fire Brigade received multiple 999 calls reporting a fire in an industrial unit off the Oscar Traynor Road.

“At present six fire engines including a turntable ladder are fighting the fire and Dublin Fire Brigade are advising as a precaution for local residents to close all windows and doors if affected by smoke.

“This is an ongoing operation and we expect to be at scene for the foreseeable,” Dublin Fire Brigade said in an updated statement.

“If you can smell smoke we’re advising local residents to close all windows and doors as a precaution

“Smoke is drifting across the locality,” they advised.

A garda spokesperson added that “Dublin Fire Brigade currently have primacy at the scene.”

“Gardaí are assisting with traffic management at this time,” they said.

The industrial premises is around 2km from the disused former Crown Paints factory earmarked for asylum accommodation that has been the focus of protests and arson attacks in recent weeks, leading to initial online speculation that that premises was again on fire. However, this evening’s fire is at a different location.

Dublin Airport has said the fire, close to the airport, is not impacting any flights.

“A fire in the Santry area is resulting in smoke blowing towards the airport this evening. This is not impacting on operations at the airport and flights continue to operate as normal.

“The airport team, in collaboration with AirNav Ireland, continue to monitor the situation,” a spokesperson for airport operator DAA said.

Social media users from across the city have been posting pictures and videos of the large blaze.

The fire is visible from Dublin Airport also.
