A popular Belfast burger joint has announced their new location in the city centre after their previous stall had to shut due to the closure of Trademarket.

Baps Belfast – known for ‘LA-style smash burgers’, as well as hot chicken wings, loaded fries and macaroni and cheese dishes – was previously situated at Trademarket on the Dublin Road until the food court closed earlier this month.

The street food outlet closed after it was confirmed that planning permission has been approved for IT firm Kainos’ new headquarters on the site.

Now Baps says it is opening a new permanent branch just a 10-minute walk away, with an Instagram post saying “coming soon”, before confirming the next location will be on 52 Upper Arthur Street in the city centre.

For those who need their burger fix now, Baps confirmed it will be serving up food at Happy’s on the Lisburn Road, the “dive bar” that recently opened up on the old Cuckoo site.

In a post on Instagram on Tuesday, the bar wrote: “Getyourbapsout @bapsbelfast now open at your friendly neighbourhood dive bar! Happy days.”

Last year, a popular food blogger praised Baps for having one of the “best burgers” they’ve had anywhere.

Matt Davies-Binge, aka Food Review Club, said the establishment was a “hidden gem” and that it supplied him with “one of the best chicken burgers” he’s ever had during his time posting culinary critiques online.

Food Review Club has been labelled the UK’s number one food reviewer, and the account has almost 80,000 YouTube subscribers and over half a million followers on TikTok.

Two of the team members gave Baps an overall score of 8.8 and 8.9 [out of 10] respectively.
