Police are at the scene of an ongoing security alert in Co Armagh.

Residents in the Upper Church Lane area of Portadown have been evacuated from their homes.

The scene has been cordoned off and a number of roads have been closed.

Police have urged members of the public to avoid the area.

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart said there is a “large police presence” near the Seagoe hotel in the town.

“Please allow police time and space to deal with this ongoing incident,” she wrote on Facebook.

“Best to avoid the area.”

In a separate post on X the DUP representative said: “Road closures in place around the Seagoe Hotel area of Portadown as police deal with a situation there.

“Best to find an alternative route to allow them to do their job, and ensure less congestion in the area.”
