A man believed to be homeless has been ticketed by Toronto Police for allegedly employing “aggressive” squeegee tactics on downtown motorists.

A video of a man named Chris received lots of attention over the weekend on social media.

Toronto Police believe they were justified in ticketing the man.

“The Safe Streets Act was established in 1999 to address aggressive panhandlers attempting to collect money in public places. In this act, aggressive manner means a manner that is likely to cause a reasonable person to be concerned for his or her safety or security,” police said in a statement.

The Safe Streets Act offence of soliciting in an aggressive manner carries a fine of $50.

The act was brought in by the province to deal with the growing problem of squeegee kids aggressively plying their trade on the streets.

By 1999, it was commonplace to have squeegee kids at the busiest intersections in the city cleaning windshields and then demanding money.
