A statement from the PSNI said: “Motorists are advised that the Killyleagh Road, Downpatrick is closed due to a serious road traffic collision. Diversions are in place at Finnebrogue Road and Island Road; however, where possible, you should avoid the area entirely.”

Pedestrian left in critical condition after being hit by lorry on M1

Police are appealing for information after a serious collision on the M1 between Belfast and Lisburn this morning (Sunday) left a man in critical condition.

In a statement released at around 3.45pm, the PSNI said: “At around 6.50am, it was reported that a collision had occurred between a pedestrian and a lorry travelling on the motorway west-bound. The road, closed for seven hours, has now fully reopened.

“The injured man, aged in his 60s, is in a critical condition in hospital.

“An investigation is underway and anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 432 28/07/24.”

M1 closure update

The M1 has reopened eastbound, but remains closed west-bound at Dunmurry following a serious crash just before 7am this morning (Sunday).
Traffic is being diverted off at Blacks Road (Junction 3).
According to the PSNI, the closure is likely to remain in place “for some time”. Dunmurry Lane is also closed in both directions as part of the same incident.
“Thank you for your continued patience while we deal with this incident,” a PSNI spokesperson said.
Road users are advised to take an alternative route.
Traffic remains particularly busy in the Lisburn area.

M1 ‘likely to be closed for some time’ after serious crash

The M1 is closed west-bound at Dunmurry and east-bound at Saintfield Road following a serious crash just before 7am this morning (Sunday).
Traffic is currently being diverted off at Blacks Road (Junction 3) and Saintfield Road (Junction 6).
According to the PSNI, the closure is likely to remain in place “for some time”. Dunmurry Lane is also closed in both directions as part of the same incident.
Road users are advised to take an alternative route.
Due to the current closure of the M1, traffic is particularly busy in the Lisburn area.

M3 closures for essential works on Belfast’s Lagan Bridge

A £700 major maintenance scheme to replace 10 bearings on the M3 Lagan Bridge is continuing this weekend.
The work, which began last Friday, is scheduled to take place over five consecutive weekends, subject to favourable weather conditions.

  • 19 – 22 July 2024
  • 26 – 29 July 2024
  • 2 – 5 August 2024
  • 9 – 12 August 2024
  • 16 – 19 August 2024
A series of road and lane closures will be in operation over the remaining four weekends.
This week, the M3 will be closed on the east-bound side, with no access from the M2, from 9pm today (Friday 26 July) until 6am on Monday 29 July.

Co Down road closed following crash

Newtownards – Road users are advised that the Movilla Road is closed in both directions at its junctions with Loughries Road and Upper Gransha Road, due to a road traffic collision. 
Early indications are that the road will be closed for some time and road users should seek an alternative route.

Police are aware of an issue with traffic lights affecting the Monkstown Road, Old Carrick Road and Jordanstown Road in Jordanstown this evening.
The relevant authority to repair the lights has been informed and you’re advised to drive with caution in this area.

Motorists are advised to avoid the Ormeau Avenue area of south Belfast due to a serious road traffic collision in the area. Closures are in place at the junctions with Bedford Street, Linenhall Street, and Adelaide Street.

Major Belfast traffic disruption during three days of NIE repairs

Road users are being warned of significant disruption expected to affect traffic in Belfast between Wednesday 24 and Friday 26 July due to major NIE cable repairs on the Grosvenor Road, between Durham Street and Stanley Street.

Closures:

  • Lane 1 closure: (Wednesday 24 July) From Stanley Street to Durham Street
  • Full road closure: Thursday 25 and Friday 26 July
  • Westlink off slip lane closure for duration of road closure: From midnight on the night of 24 July
  • Lane 1 and 2 closures at Howard Street
  • Access to the Westlink for Lisburn-bound traffic will be open
  • Hard closure points from Durham Street to Westlink on slip
Multiple diversions will be in place for the duration of the NIE repair works. 
When factored in with the ongoing works already in this area, significant impact on travel times into and out of the city centre is likely.
Road users are advised to expect delays and factor this into their travel plans for the duration of this closure.

A1 oil spill update

An earlier oil spill affecting the inside northbound lane of the A1 dual carriageway in Newry, from Sheepsbridge to Gibsons Quarry, has been treated.
It is reported that all lanes are now running normally for the time of day.

The PSNI has received a report of an oil spill in Newry, on the A1.
The spill is said to stretch for miles along the inside northbound lane of the dual carriageway, from Sheepsbridge to Gibsons Quarry.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution until the spill can be treated.

Serious one-vehicle crash on A1 in County Down

A statement from the PSNI said: “Motorists are urged to avoid the A1 between Hillsborough and Dromore due to a serious one vehicle road traffic collision in the area.
“There are diversions in place in both the northbound and southbound lanes. Please seek an alternative route for your journey where possible.”
Police said the A1 reopened after a couple of hours and one man was taken to hospital for his injuries.
