A van showing a message of support for Armagh’s GAA team ahead of the All Ireland Football Final has been burnt out, images circulating online have shown.

Local councillor Thomas O’Hanlon shared images of the damage to the vehicle, which carried a message reading “Armagh 4 Sam” and “Sam is home” as well as flags and bunting.

Significant damage has been carried out to the vehicle, parked on the main Armagh-Newry Road – close to the junction which leads to Mullabrack GFC.

In a social media post, the club said: “Despite the overnight torching of our signs and flags this will not dampen our spirits as we welcome Sam home!”

SDLP councillor Mr O’Hanlon said of the damage: “Disgusted and heartbroken.”

He added: “I think is safe to say it wasn’t disappointed Galway supports behind this vile act. Every single right thinking person will condemn this.”

He advised Armagh supporters: “Rise above it, nothing will take the shine of a brilliant day in Dublin.”

Mr O’Hanlon said anyone with any information should contact police.

The PSNI has been asked for a response.
