Cookstown’s David Ames captained Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s men to a 4-0 victory over Spain in the first game of the Olympic hockey tournament.

Nick Park opened the scoring with a stunning goal before Welshman Gareth Furlong hit an impressive brace. Rubert Shipperley completed the scoring late in the game.

Team GB will face South Africa on Sunday evening before facing top seeds the Netherlands, hosts France and world champions Germany in their other pool matches. The top four teams go through to the quarter-finals.
