Translink have announced an additional service to help Armagh supporters travelling to this weekend’s much-anticipated All-Ireland senior football final against Galway.

The Orchard County will take on the Tribesmen in Sunday’s decider, with Kieran McGeeney’s men looking to secure their first All-Ireland title since 2002, when McGeeney himself captained the team to glory.

A number of special services had already been provided by Translink for fans travelling to the game; two special trains, a bus special from Armagh and another bus special from Newry have already sold out.

The company also increased capacity on the regular Enterprise service to Dublin to support fans heading to the game.

Now an additional bus from Newry is to be provided, departing the city at 11am and returning at 8pm.

Declan McGinley, acting head of Rail Customer Services at Translink, said: “This is a big day for Armagh fans and we have organised several special services to help more supporters get to the game on public transport.

“We are operating two rail specials as well as bus specials from Armagh and Newry to the GAA finals in Croke Park. Both trains and the first two bus specials quickly sold out so we have added an additional bus special from Newry today.

“We recommend that passengers pre-book their bus special to the event as soon as possible to secure a seat www.translink.co.uk/events.

“Enterprise services, which have been enhanced, are also exceptionally busy that day and we recommend that people looking to travel book in advance.”

Ulster GAA public relations officer Michael McArdle said: “We welcome confirmation of these special services for the All-Ireland Football Final that will allow Armagh supporters to enjoy their day with safe and hassle-free travel.”

Sunday’s match against Pádraig Joyce’s Galway side will throw in at 3.30pm in Croke Park.
