A 22-year-old Clarington man faces nine charges including impaired operation causing death and dangerous driving causing death following a fatal car crash in Bowmanville.

Durham Regional Police say on July 21 around 8:40 p.m., officers responded to a collision involving two vehicles and three pedestrians on Simpson Ave.

Cops say a grey Hyundai sedan was heading south on Simpson Ave. when it hit a grey Hyundai Tucson SUV also going south and lost control, going over the curb onto the sidewalk and hitting three pedestrians including an infant.

Authorities say the male pedestrian was taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he was pronounced dead, the female pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition and the infant pedestrian was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Cops say the female passenger from the SUV sustained minor injuries.

Liam James Patrick Kendall was also charged with three counts each of impaired operation causing bodily harm and dangerous driving causing bodily harm and one count of operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
