Nigel Farage has been hailed as the next possible UK Ambassador to the US if Donald Trump wins the Presidential election in November.

The Reform UK leader recently flew out to Milwaukee to visit his close ally, after the 45th US President was shot at during his campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

Hitting back at critics who questioned Farage’s motives in flying to the US so soon after being elected, the Clacton MP claimed it was the “least he could do” for a “friend going through a near-death experience”.

He told GB News: “I know what a near-death experience is like. 15 years ago, I was in an aircraft crashing to the ground. I thought my last seconds had come and I was smashed to pieces – I had a split sternum, broken my ribs, I was in a bad way.”

Discussing the possible appointment of Farage on GB News, Republicans Overseas UK spokesperson Sarah Elliott claimed that he would be “very useful” to Donald Trump and a Republican administration come November.

When asked by host Camilla Tominey what the Republican Party would be looking for in a UK Ambassador, Elliott revealed: “The Republicans right now are actually very much Labor focused, in the sense they had the President of the Teamsters Union speak at the Republican National Convention.

“Maybe less progressive people and more people who are focused, a more traditional Labour representative would work better with these Republicans.”

Noting some other possible candidates for the role, Camilla asked Elliott for her views on the likes of Peter Mandelson and David Miliband.

Elliott told GB News: “It’s very important who we appoint, actually. David Miliband spent a lot of time in the United States, he might be a good choice.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

“I just feel like these choices harken back to 20 years ago. Could we get some fresh Labour thinking and blood in the mix? People who maybe have more of a less of a globalist worldview?”

Turning the discussion to Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who is facing calls to step down following resurfaced comments about Donald Trump, Elliott claimed that the Labour secretary “doesn’t need to step down”, and urged Trump’s team to “look to the future” if they are to become the next administration.

Elliott said: “I don’t think David Lammy should step down – he has changed his tune and he has made great overtures in Washington D.C. and in the United States.

“If Donald Trump can forgive JD Vance for saying things in the past, then I think he can extend the grace to David Lammy, who is the Foreign Secretary of our best ally.”

Elliott added: “Let’s face it, Labour won hands down, with a huge majority.

“Donald Trump will have to respect the electoral outcome of this country, and David Lammy has shown that he wants to be a diplomat.”

When pressed by Camilla on whether she believes Lammy should apologise to Trump if he is elected President in November, Elliott claimed: “I’m sure Donald Trump would welcome that, but everybody should probably just look to the future and move on.”
