A man has been charged with attempting to prevent a lawful burial in Derry.

The charge is in relation to the death of a man earlier this week.

The deceased man, who was in his 80s, was discovered at a house on Culmore Road on Wednesday (July 17).

He has been named locally as Noel O’Sullivan.

The 55-year-old man charged is due to appear at Londonderry Magistrates Court on Monday (July 22).

As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Police confirmed on Wednesday evening that the man, aged in his 80s, had passed away.

Forensics remained at the scene on Thursday.

The dead body lay for a number of days before the alarm was raised with emergency services to call out to the property.

Police attended the house at the end of April when it’s understood they had to force entry as there were concerns about the man’s health.

The man was taken to hospital and subsequently discharged.
