WE NEED AN ELECTION

In the U.S., a senator is found guilty of being a bribed and paid for foreign agent, while the family of a sitting president is under investigation for the same. In Canada, the worst government in history refuses to acknowledge foreign agent MPs, and ignores corruption of contractors submitting false claims. CERB handouts to people who didn’t need them? Never happened. Time for a change of government — everyone contact your MPs and make them call an election.

(We are well overdue for a new government. One that isn’t riddled with scandal and continuing to turn a blind eye to the growing scandals surrounding them)

SUNMER LETDOWN

Despite Brian Lilley’s usual inculpable description of whatever Premier Ford is involved in (“Political science,” July 12), it’s summertime, it’s baseball season and that’s something to be thankful for, including Toronto’s favourite treasures that were made and administered to last for years. But not the Ontario Science Centre, Lilley’s first words including “neglect” to describe its demise. How maddening to compare this structure with baseball’s oldest stadium, Fenway Park in Boston, built in 1912, with seating up to 40,000. As wiser minds decided, it was worth maintaining, with the first renos beginning in 1988 (76 years later, over three-quarters of a century) then in 2002, 2011 and 2017. Expansion covered the years from 1934 to 2022. Unlike a baseball stadium, the Ontario Science Centre directed its functions primarily to the younger crowd, suggesting that in time, age does matter, allowing an unrepentant letdown for kids already here and yet to come.

TIME TO GO JOE

Hit the road Joe and don’t you come back, no more, no more, no more! Hit the road Joe and don’t you come back no more. You’re the most self-delusional president I’ve ever seen. It’s long past the time you should’ve split the scene. If you say no, Democrats will have to make you go. Hit the road Joe and don’t you come back no more.

(He may not have a choice. It seems the powerful Democrats in the party are pushing him to not be the candidate. So far, he’s digging in)
