A 26-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of a Midland woman.
Ontario Provincial Police say officers were called to a Seventh St. home on Monday, just before 1 p.m. and they found Julia Brady, 23, dead.
A second resident was located suffering from serious injuries.
The second resident was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a Toronto-area trauma centre.
Police have not said how the woman died but a post-mortem examination has been scheduled at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto.
Detectives have not revealed a motive for the murder, nor have they commented on the connection between the dead woman and the accused.
Posts on social media claim the alleged murder was an incident of domestic violence.
On Friday, cops announced Justus Chester, of Midland, has been charged with second-degree murder.
Chester remains in custody, with his first court appearance scheduled for Monday.
On social media, one woman who claims to knows Chester wrote: “What happened to you Justus…. We were best friends…. F–k man… RIP to the female I would have never thought he’d be capable of this…”
None of the charges have been proven in court.
The murder was the second in Huronia in three days.
On July 13, a 75-year-old retired painter was allegedly murdered by his roommate at their Barrie home.
Cops allege Eric Beecroft was involved in an altercation with the roommate in the backyard of the house shortly after 10:30 p.m.
Officers found Beecroft unconscious with head and facial injuries. Despite efforts by officers and paramedics, Beecroft succumbed to his injuries.
Sonny Conrad Stephens, 46, was arrested last Sunday and has been charged with second-degree murder.
One of Beecroft’s neighbours told Barrie Today that his friend had been at the home for about six years and was a “good guy” who enjoyed swimming and stayed in good shape. He was also a voracious reader.
“He went to the library and would bring back books, read them in a week, and go back and get more,” the neighbour said. “Eric liked to garden and used to borrow my tools and things to do some trimming in the yard.”
The man, who Barrie Today did not identify, claims to have witnessed the alleged beating.
