Paul Coyte has shared his predictions on who could win the 152nd Open Championships at Royal Troon.

In a behind the scenes video for GB News members, the presenter said: “Firstly, I’d love to be able to say that I think Dan Brown is going to be the winner of the Open.

“So Dan Brown is always like a Cinderella story. He’s come out of nowhere and he leads The Open Championship, which is the greatest golf championship there is in the world.

“So he was number 272 in the world. Nobody would ever give him a hope.

“But he was bogey-free and just went round and he was just magnificent. But whether it’s actually going to last, this is the thing. You often see golfers that will start a championship like this, but it’s about consistency and you’ve got to get through each of the rounds, you go through four rounds, and keep it up.

“And I don’t think he’s going to be able to manage it. I hope he can, but I don’t think he will.”

Paul then shared his thoughts on Rory McIlroy.

“Everybody’s talking about Rory,” he said. “Rory has had a very bad start.

“He’s going to be out the window by probably – I don’t think he’ll be playing on Saturday, so I don’t think he’ll make the cut.

“Same thing goes for Tiger Woods. Tiger still thinks there’s a championship in him. I don’t think there is. It’s time maybe to retire for Tiger, although he doesn’t believe that at the moment.

“But my tip to win the Open, Irishman Shane Lowry sitting very well, just in second place.

“The conditions suit him, although the weather is probably going to get better up there at Royal Troon. The course suits him. He’s already got an Open under his belt, he knows how to win it.”

Paul went on to insist Lowry would be the winner before teasing that the footage should be removed if he didn’t make it to the number one spot.

He said: “So to win the Open, to lift the Claret Jug Sunday afternoon? Shane Lowry.

“And if it’s not the case I want it’s deleted. And nobody ever talked about it again.”
