A man has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder following a shooting in Banbridge in April.

The 46-year-old is due to appear before Banbridge Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Newry Courthouse, on Thursday, August 8.

As is usual procedure, the charge will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Brian McCourt, 40, was shot in his abdomen by a masked man in a car park off Rathfriland Road on Friday evening, April 12.

Mr McCourt was shot at around 8pm while sitting in a taxi.

He spent a number of weeks in the Royal hospital but survived the shooting.

Police have said the investigation is ongoing.
