Pret A Manger has axed its popular five free coffees deal in a major overhaul of its loyalty scheme.

Consumers have declared the change a “massive, monumental disaster” as the coffee chain scraps discounts attached to the Club Pret membership.

Customers currently get pay £30 a month for a Club Pret subscription, which provides consumers five free coffees each day.

However from September 3, the price of the subscription will be brought down to £10 and customers will get 50 per cent off drinks instead.

In its announcement, Pret confirmed it is removing the 20 per cent discount on food products.

From September 3, the cost for Club Pret will be slashed to £5 a month until March 31, 2025. After this point it will go up to £10 monthly.

Clare Clough, Pret UK and Ireland Managing Director, said: “We know this is a change.

“But with Club Pret subscription, our coffees, teas, coolers and iced drinks will continue to be the best offer on the high street, and at a much more accessible price than the £360 a year people have to pay for the current scheme.

“Given the majority of our customers are not Club Pret subscribers, our priority now is to focus on better value for everyone.“

Taking to social media, coffee lovers shared their disappointment over the the five free coffee deal being scrapped.

One X user wrote: “Just to let Pret A Manger know what a massive, monumental disaster this new ‘subscription’ is going to be, you’re going to regret this.”

When confirming changes to the loyalty scheme, Pret emphasised other deals available at the coffee chain.

As of today, customers will be able to buy its signature 100 per cent organic Arabica Filter Coffee for 99p.

Furthermore, the All Butter Croissant’s price is being dropped to £1.99.

Cough added: “By making these changes, we are underlining our commitment to providing better value for all our Pret customers, as well as the Pret quality and service you’ve come to know and expect.

“I am extremely grateful for the ongoing loyalty of all of our customers and I hope to see you in our shops very soon.”
