When it comes to makeup, I’m a fan of the natural look. A touch of concealer, blush and a hint of highlighter is all I need for my daily routine. Lately, I’ve been drawn to pairing lip liner and gloss, however the stickiness of lip gloss can be a bit of a turn-off.

The last thing you want is your hair sticking to your lips with the slightest gust of wind – hardly the confidence boost I seek from my makeup. For the past month, my go-to has been Rodial’s £29 Collagen lip oil, but after seeing rave reviews for Give Me Cosmetics Glazed Lip Oil, I decided to put them to the test.

With a £17 price difference, could they possibly compare? I chose two shades: the clear ‘So Original’ and the tinted ‘Mocha Motive’. I find that nude or red hues suit my complexion best, and I’m not quite brave enough for a glossy red lip.

As reported by the Mirror, there are several pink shades available that I think would work well for those who prefer pink lip colours. The oils come with a metal applicator that provides a pleasant cooling sensation and is easy to clean – a feature I particularly liked.

The jojoba oil left my lips feeling soft later that night after just one use. While it doesn’t feel sticky on application, a few strands of hair do get caught when there’s a breeze. Unlike the Rodial oil, there isn’t a strong scent, which could be a plus or minus depending on your preference for almond oil fragrance.

Initially, I was leaning towards So Original, but the subtle pigment of Mocha Motive won me over. I paired the oils with Morphe’s Honeymoon lip liner, a personal favourite for its natural look that isn’t too much darker than my own lips.

I also added a touch of Becca’s Champagne Pop highlighter to my cupid’s bow. Although Becca’s Champagne Pop has been discontinued, I managed to find a close match in wet n wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals back in 2021.

Mocha Motive strikes the perfect balance between pigment and gloss. I would suggest having a cotton bud or wipe handy as application can get a bit messy, but overall, I’m a big fan and I can see myself reaching for Mocha Motive more than any of my other oils or glosses.

If you’re only going to purchase one of these lip oils, I’d strongly recommend a pigmented one. With 12 oils to choose from, it’s definitely worth checking out the models wearing them – I wouldn’t have picked Mocha Motive otherwise.

Lip oils have become increasingly popular in recent years, particularly among beauty fans looking for a natural look, reports the Manchester Evening News. Oils effectively act as a multitasking hybrid product, bridging the gap between makeup and skincare.

As well as giving your lips a glossy sheen, lip oils are hydrating and offer barrier protection from the elements. With a unanimous five-star rating from 55 customer reviews, Give Me Cosmetic’s lip oils are an affordable yet high-quality option for shoppers unwilling to compromise on quality for price. However, there are other options available. Dior offers a £33 lip oil in seven different shades and is currently offering free engraving for shoppers seeking a touch of luxury – albeit at a significantly higher price point.

On the other hand, Give Me Cosmetics’ oils are priced at £12 each with bundle options providing substantial savings. A £35 four-piece build-your-own option effectively gives shoppers one colour free based on the usual prices. Additionally, it’s possible to purchase every single shade for £95, achieving nearly a third off the standard £144 price.
