As spring approaches, many are gearing up for a thorough home clean in preparation for the warmer months. This is what prompted TikTok user Lady Legit to reveal her top cleaning tip for tackling mould on windows and bathrooms.

In her popular video, she said: “If the windows in your house look anything like mine do here, you might want to watch the rest of this video because as embarrassing as it is to show, I really wanted to share this because I feel like a lot of us have mould in our house.”

She continues to highlight the potential dangers of mould and the difficulty in removing it permanently, saying: “We don’t realise how dangerous it is and just can’t seem to get rid of it permanently.” After trying numerous methods, she put the much-talked-about Mould Magic Extreme to the test, easily found on Amazon for approximately £10, curious to see if it lived up to its reputation.

In the clip, she explains: “It’s supposed to actually get rid of the mould for good. It says to dry the area and leave the gel on for two to three hours.” Once the time has elapsed, she proudly shares the impressive before-and-after, stating that the results “speak for themselves”.

The final result was a spotless windowsill, which she cleans off effortlessly. Reflecting on her experience, she shares: “For what it’s worth, I’ve tried about three different bleaches on stubborn mould around the house, but the mould would always grow back.”

The NHS has warned that mould can cause a variety of symptoms, including sneezing, runny noses, red eyes, and skin rashes. Those particularly vulnerable to the effects of mould and dampness are babies, children, the elderly, individuals with pre-existing skin or respiratory conditions, and those with weakened immune systems.

The health service advises: “If you have mould or damp it’s important to find out why you have too much moisture in your home. When you know what’s causing the damp, you can make sure your home is repaired or take steps to limit the moisture in the air.

“For serious issues, professional mould removal may be necessary, but smaller amounts might be treatable on your own. Remember to don protective gloves and a facemask when tackling mould, and ventilate the area by opening a window if using bleach to clean it.”

Social media users have shared their own experiences after watching a TikTok video about dealing with mould. One person lamented their plight: “Just moved from a mould riddled house and went to put some furniture up in my new one and noticed my bookshelf and drawers are covered in mould. I’m tired.”

Meanwhile, another offered a tip they’d learned: “I’m trying the German way of opening all doors and windows in my flat for five minutes twice a day get a good air flow through – it’s really helping.” And a third described taking proactive measures based on advice received: “I just used today on my daughter’s windows, let’s see if it really will keep it from coming back.”
