If being a mum were advertised as a job, seven in ten people admit they’d find it hard to grasp the role based solely on the job description.
According to a survey, Brits believe the role of ‘mum’ deserves an annual salary exceeding £83,500—a testament to the staggering range of skills required. From multitasking under pressure to crisis management and creative thinking, the responsibilities go far beyond the traditional scope.
Key skills identified by respondents include providing emotional support, managing household schedules, stain removal expertise, and being a ‘master’ at finding lost items.
The survey, carried out by Funky Pigeon ahead of Mother’s Day, sheds light on the incredible value many place on mums and their daily contributions to their families.
A Funky Pigeon spokesperson commented: “What’s clear is how much people value their mums and everything they do. The list of skills and experiences needed for the role is so vast, it really highlights their superhero status.
“But the research also reminds us how easy it can be to forget just how much they do and the importance of showing our appreciation.”

Indeed, eight out of ten people view mums as “real-life superheroes,” yet 68 per cent believe they don’t get the recognition they deserve. With Mother’s Day providing the perfect opportunity to express gratitude, 75 per cent of Brits agree it’s an ideal time to show their love.
However, over a third confess they don’t tell their mum often enough how much she means to them, and 17 per cent admit to barely putting in any effort for Mother’s Day.
When it comes to showing appreciation, 69 per cent think a gift is “enough,” while 55 per cent feel a heartfelt card fits the bill.
That said, 16 per cent still think a last-minute box of chocolates and a petrol station card will suffice, and 19 per cent confess they’ve skimped on efforts in the past.
The Funky Pigeon spokesperson added: “Thankfully, most people lucky enough to have a relationship with their mum make it known how much they care.
“A card is often seen as the bare minimum on their special day and it feels a special, personalised and heartfelt card can go a long way to making them feel loved.”
