Fire crews have responded to a major overnight blaze in north Belfast.

Crews attended the fire at commercial premises on the Limestone Road in the north of the city.

The initial call was received at 2.26am, the NI Fire and Rescue Service said.

A spokesperson added: “Nine fire appliances from Whitla, Cadogan, Knock, Lisburn, Westland Fire Stations are in attendance including an aerial ladder appliance and command unit with seven officers also present.

“Firefighters are utilising breathing apparatus, firefighting jets and foam jets to control the fire. We expect to remain at this location for a number of hours. Supporting arrangements are in place to ensure we can respond to other calls in the Belfast area.

“We would ask the public to avoid the area whilst we deal with the incident and advise local residents and premises to keep their windows and doors closed.”
