Fermanagh have been making quiet progress in the Allianz Football League, but Erne County manager Kieran Donnelly is keen to see his side finish with a flourish.

Donnelly has watched Fermanagh drop the occasional point and is now hoping that the team’s mechanism will improve ahead of the Ulster Championship.

The fact that they will cross swords with Leitrim in a Division Three encounter on Sunday in Ballinamore (2.00pm) throws up another challenge for the side as they bid to acquire greater consistency.

They have shown considerable resilience and commitment so far, but no one knows better than Donnelly that his team his side are capable of further improvement.

“If we can show an improvement, I think this would give us a lift,” insists Donnelly.

“Obviously, with the League drawing to a close, everyone is beginning to focus on the Ulster Championship, but we will just take each game as it comes. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves.”

With Ultan Kelm, Garvan Jones and Declan McCusker in particularly good form, Fermanagh have looked confident and assured yet they are taking nothing for granted.

The fact that they dropped the occasional ‘soft point’ to date is a source of concern, but manager Donnelly believes that the side can acquire greater consistency as the season unfurls.

“We are capable of raising our game, and if we do that, we should be able to get better results,” points out Donnelly.

“The going has been tough in the League with teams becoming more familiar with the new rules, which should add to the quality of games.

“But the pressure is on in terms of promotion and relegation.”
